Porsche 964/993 Flap Servo Position PCB

Porsche 964/993 Servo Position Board

It’s pleasant to be recommended forwards for a job; word seemed to travel around that I was working on modifying flap motors for the 939 Spiders and a local Porsche garage asked if I could look into 964/993 flap position sensors. Similarly to the roof flap motors in the Alfas, they work on a principle of using a wiper from the potentiometer, however the Porsche ones also act as limit switches for the motor. As with all mechatronic parts, carbon tracks wear down over time, and the Porsche ones are no exception (plus there’s a current surge when it acts as a limit switch but we’ll ignore that for now).

Unfortunately Porsche don’t make the singular board available for sale which leaves people with the only option of buying a new servo motor assembly at ~£250. There are two different types of angular boards available, a 130 degree variant and a 60 degree version which are not interchangable with each other as the wiper voltages are designed to be at different points in the rotation arc of the output gear. OEM part numbers are:

  • 964 624 324 00 (130°)

Whilst I do have the solid-state solution for the 939s, that wasn’t able to be used with the Porsche servos as the driven output shaft passes through the board – it isn’t a single-sided driven output but one that exits out the front and back of the assembly. Given the time constraints of the project, with it being needed in ‘Then and there’, I opted to instead recreate the old PCB, however offer it as a standalone item so that they can be swapped out as/when needed when the originals become faulty. The new boards are entire swap-overs with the pins being compatible with the original wiring connectors (as with all of our products!).
